Candidate Experience: Providing Questions During the Interview
Earlier this year, I partnered with the candidate.fyi on an article about why you should provide candidates with interview questions beforehand. In that article, I noted that you could send the questions ahead or drop them into a presentation deck and show them on screen during the interview (especially if it was a video interview). Both of these options, though, are labor intensive and raise questions about who owns the updates and creation (especially if you want to make sure they stay consistent and are branded correctly).
I recently chatted with another RecOps professional in the space who noted that the questions could also be dropped into the chat during the video call. This method has several benefits:
Ease of use: If your interviewers have their questions in a list (which they should), they can easily copy and paste them into the chat. This means that no additional branding work is needed and necessary.
Flexibility: To continue with #1, if the questions change or there are specific follow-ups for this candidate in the process, you have the added benefit of making specific lists or following the questions out of order.
Still benefits everyone: The candidate is still able to see the question and ensure they are staying focused in their response. The interviewer then gets the benefit of more structured answers.
RecOps Conference Next Week!
We're excited that next week, we’ll be in Chicago to kick off the RecOps Conference! If you know our commitment to the RecOps community, you've likely heard us talk about the need for this conference long before we started working together with other community leaders earlier this year to make it a reality.
While the conference officially starts Thursday, October 24th, we'll be attending other events around the city on Wednesday, October 23rd or would like to shout out. I've listed a few below:
1️⃣ Chicago Recruiter Happy Hour with Talent Collective, Metaview, and RecOps Collective (https://lu.ma/ekrw44tx)
2️⃣ Gem and Talent Collective dinner (https://lu.ma/ydhdwmd9) (we’re not attending but we know that people who are will be in for a super treat!)
3️⃣ From 7:45 PM to 9:00 PM (CT), we’ll be hanging out at Monk's Pub with some RecOps folks. It's informal, so just drop by or send Jeremy a message to let him know you are coming.
