Prioritizing During Reschedule/Retrospective Season by Jeremy Lyons
Earlier this week, I noted that Reschedule and Retrospective Season is upon us in the RecOps community. Because of the upcoming holidays, there will be more days off, which is great for much-needed recharging, but also means less time to still do the same amount of expected work with the cross-functional partners.
So how will you get everything you need to done? Prioritization. When it comes to prioritization, the Eisenhower Matrix provides an excellent framework not only for this time of the year but year-round. Here are a few examples (based on my personal experience) for how each role could slot specific activities into each quadrant:
Recruiting Coordinators
Do: Prioritize Scheduling, Offer, and Onboarding docs. If approvers or others need to get things over the finish line, track them down and push them so nothing is left open.
Delegate: If you are swamped with scheduling/offer letters/onboarding, reach out to your teammates and see if anyone has the capacity to take over some of the requests
Schedule: Writing your performance recap for the year
Delete: Catch up meetings
Recruiting Ops Specialists
Do: Any project with a go-live of Jan 1
Delegate: Check capacity on your team and swap projects with a team member who has the skills needed to complete the project
Schedule: Writing your performance recap for the year
Delete: Meetings you don’t need to be a part of in the next month or year (basically calendar cleanse)
RecOps Managers
Do: Finish RecOps retrospectives (the highlights/lowlights), budgets, and anything that has a go-live of Jan 1
Delegate: Yearly reporting or dashboards
Schedule: Your project backlog
Delete: Meetings you don’t need to be a part of in the next month or year (basically calendar cleanse)
Did I miss anything? What would you slot and where?
