Industry Shifting Moves
When we started out today, we were planning on writing about how you still use things you learned in school, like the Scientific Method and Order of Operations/PEMDAS and then, within hours of each other:
So instead of getting elementary with it, we’re going to take a moment to break these down and the positives we see.
Zoom Acquiring Brighthire
On paper, this one just makes sense. Zoom gets a fantastic team and a thoroughly upgraded product line. Now all the Zoom licenses will make more sense for recruiting teams and the tech will be even more seamless. Additionally, this type of M&A involving these types of products has been discussed, especially following Workday's acquisition of Paradox and SAP's acquisition of SmartRecruiters. We think we’ll likely see another of these moves in the next 6 months (possibly a conversational AI acquisition by an ATS).
We’ve seen acquisitions where things make sense (a la Calendly-Prelude) that haven’t worked out in the past. BUT we see this as being thoroughly different from a timing and execution standpoint. Business needs are different and newer notetaker players (like Fireflies with their new Recruiting agent) might not deliver in the same way.
Cursor acquiring GBD
This one was definitely not on our bingo card for the year. GBD has been a bedrock for RecOps consulting, walking (and running) so that many of us had a role model to look up to. They’ve launched the careers of countless RecOps people, educated a ton more. Cursor is getting some truly phenomenal people are and we won’t be surprised if a year from now, they are the model everyone is using when laying out their Ops functions.
