Tobey McGuire Got Bit By a Spider, RecOps Must’ve Been Bitten by Hope by Jeremy Lyons
Ok… that headline might not be my best work. I’ve been listening to Tobey by Eminem on repeat, and that came into my head. As RecOps professionals, one of the biggest currencies we deal in is hope. Whether hope is from candidates hoping that this opportunity will unlock a whole new world, hiring managers looking for that next wunderkind that will elevate the team, the business looking to make that next key decision, or our recruiting teams looking to be that much more efficient, is payment for everything we do, even when we can’t see the forest for the trees.
I don’t think anyone gets into the RecOps space without hope either. Many of us, behind all the technical skills and wizardry, hope we are making a difference and making a change. That’s why I do it. I got into it to hopefully change the systems and processes from the inside and be a voice in the room for other neurodivergent people so that others would hopefully see a person, not words.
