Remember to Take Vacation
Gershwin might have said that “Summertime, and the livin' is easy,” but while he was a great composer, he was not in RecOps (to be fair, though, RecOps wouldn’t be created for nearly 80+ years). There is rarely a time when the livin’ is easy in RecOps and summertime is no different. Our stakeholders and key project partners leave for vacations, the dog days of summer reduce productivity, interviewers cancel last minute, putting pressure on us to help our RC teams, but the same output is expected. Sometimes, that expectation isn’t coming from our leaders or the company; sometimes, it comes from our own minds.
So here is your reminder: take a break. Disconnect. This role requires more creativity than most would have you believe.
But I have so much to do! Give me a quick checklist so I don’t have to think about it.
Happy to! Carve out about 2 hours of pure focus time.
Write down all the projects and programs you are working on.
Eisenhower Matrix them.
Delegate.
Breakdown all the items in your Do and Decide. Most likely you will see that none of them are truly life or death.
Ok, I did that. Now what?
Put in your PTO request and go touch grass (or a Highland Cow they are readily available)
