๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฃ๐ถ๐ช is a Japanese aesthetic concept that describes a subtle, understated beauty that becomes more profound with time and observation. It embodies simplicity, refinement, and depth often found in objects, art, experience, or people that are not flashy but evoke a quiet elegance and harmony.

You likely have seen other Japanese words throughout your experience, like ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ, ๐ฌ๐ข๐ช๐ป๐ฆ๐ฏ, and ๐ช๐ฌ๐ช๐จ๐ข๐ช. Like those words, ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฃ๐ถ๐ช refers to not just a definition but a philosophical concept as well. We chose it because, too often in our field, we pursue the most complex solution, thinking it is the best solution. This can lead to chase shiny new tools or processes before our teams are ready or we've taken the time to truly review what isn't working (e.g., adoption/usage rates, drop-off rates, etc).

When conducting retros or going back to first principles, consider solutions that can create the highest impact without adding more complexity. If you are incorporating automation or AI into your process, consider how you can make adopting or using it as easy as possible for the end users (for example, can you create copy-and-paste prompt libraries or auto-populate prompts for the most commonly used).
