Topics Going Into 2024 by Jeremy Lyons
Right now, every company and expert seems to be rushing to/releasing their 2024 predictions. I’m no exception to this as I’m featured in some of these articles and thinking about the future is fun. But for this community and newsletter, I wanted to take a different angle and instead capture one theme for each of RecOps five pillars and offer up background as to why:
Data/Analytics - What metrics are actually needed? People are obsessed with measurements and benchmarking. If you follow sports like baseball, which is in free agency right now, you are seeing it with things like Wins Above Replacement (WAR). But just because we can measure everything, does it mean we should and if we do, do we have enough data literacy to understand what the data is showing us? This is important to consider in 2024 with your teams and report requests.
Programs/Initiatives - How are we training and developing our internal TA team with AI on the horizon? 2023 has been the year of AI. It is everywhere and it isn’t going away. Instead of fighting it, it is time to start considering incorporating it. So what resources, how much time, and how will the response be for your team?
Employer Branding - Is internal mobility the biggest selling point our company can offer? 2021 and 2022 where about remote culture and pitching how candidates could work from anywhere. With the market shifting and companies contracting headcount, what are the top selling points for candidates going to be? It is starting to look like that is landing and expanding, but is your company ready for that and whose going to own it?
Strategy - How do we help remove ego from the interview process? There is a fantastic dialogue happening now around skill-based hiring (follow Matthias Schmeisser if you want to learn more). It is likely the future of hiring, especially with how GAI is changing the landscape. So what happens when an interviewer speaks with a candidate and can’t separate their ego from the candidate’s potential? This will have to be accounted for across the board and will likely be an issue that Recruiting teams will need to address.
Operations - How can we do more with less? This is a different question going into 2024 than in years past. The tools, the training, and everything is a little different (which could be said every year but this is different). So how RecOps team ruthlessly prioritize will be key.
RecOpsGPT Update
Thank you to the people who have already started using RecOpsGPT!
Currently it is only available if you have a paid OpenAI account until OpenAI launches their app store (which is supposedly early next year).
We apologize that this is the case for the moment.
